The Vienna palace of princes Shvartsenbergov (Palais Schwarzenberg) located in the 3rd area, nearby to a known Belvedere, is considered a sample of the Austrian baroque.

A little stories

Construction of the smart summer lock has begun on the ending of the XVII century, by request of tsarevitch Mansfelda-Fondi. In 1697-1704 over the project Johann Hildebrandt worked. When the customer was lost, works have been stopped. The daughter of tsarevitch Henry in 1715 has sold an unfinished manor to prince Adam Franz Charles Schwarzenberg. In 1720-23 the palace has been completed. Over the termination of the project Johann Fischer von Erlakh worked. It has ended the central part of a structure and a dome hall. The system works Anton Martinelli operated.

After Johann Fischer von Erlakh’s death work was headed by his offspring – Joseph Emmanuel. It has planned palace park, has designed for it difficult systems of water supply, for the first time in Austria having applied a steam cursor. Over registration of baroque fountains from sandstone (sculptural groups «Four seasons» and «Abduction the sabinyanok») worked as Lorenso Mattiyelli. The greenhouse and an arena for riding in 1751 were built by Andreas Altomonte.

The palace garden in 1783 has been reorganised in the British landscape style. Not geometrically correct forms, and pastoral landscapes and complete merge to the nature became its concept. The garden Schwarzenberg became one of the green oases of Vienna most unique and loved by public.

Palace interior

As basis of construction composition of a structure the roundish central hall serves. Its external wall from a smart yard is covered by arcadian gallery. To a main entrance conduct two bent ramps. Symmetrically located economic wings, framing a building, form the main yard. On facades of lateral wings acting projections are visible; each wing of a structure is complete a separate dvuskatny poluvalmovy roof. The return facade of the central part of a palace stands out in a garden the semicircular apse decorated powerful attiky.

Smartly decorated Marble hall (Marmorsaal) in the left wing of a structure and now is a palace ornament. Its wall decor was executed by masters Johann George and Balthasar Hagenmyullera. Fine frescos were made by the known painter of the Italian school – Daniel Gran. Now in this hall the gallery of arts of the Vienna baroque is located. Without considering the Marble hall in the left wing of a palace there are rooms of the prince, gallery, a dining room, an office.

In the right wing it is possible to behold a chapel and salon of the princess. The square chapel is decorated by a white and gold stucco moulding. Over its registration Johann Loukas Hildebrandt worked. In this room an ancient astronomical clock and fine fireplaces have remained.

In an extent of centuries the palace belonged to a family Schwarzenberg – to one of outstanding aristocratic families of the empire Gabsburgov. During bombings of the II World war the palace complex has been damaged. Reconstruction was carried out to a descent after war.

Palace now

One of wings of a structure and now belongs to descendants of the prince Austrian. Separate rooms of a palace are given for carrying out celebrations and actions. The part of a structure is converted in comfortable hotel.

In the lock hotel original objects of art, furniture, unique gobelins, meysensky porcelain have remained. At the disposal of guests of Palais Schwarzenberg hotel colourful park in the area of 7,5 hectares with the pool and tennis courts; restaurant with the French and Vienna cuisine.
