Despite the fact that his architecture is frequently said to be an attempt to recreate local tradition, in our opinion the work of Gutierrez Cortina is part of one of the great artistic traditions of the 20th century: abstract. His concern for geometric composition with perfectly defined planes and clear spaces makes his work similar to that of Gerrit Rietveld, Piet Mondrian, Barnett Newman, Sol Lewitt, and Frank Stella. Like them, he makes a search for harmony based on a combination of color and shape as well as the conviction that the abstract in itself is capable of evoking emotions.

This is an extensive plot: 100 ft (30 m) wide by 165 ft (50 m) deep, in other words, a completely flat plot of 16,000 sq ft (1,500 m2).This resulted in two decisions being taken: firstly, to build the house on virtually one level and, secondly, to leave a large square courtyard in front of the main facade that acts like an anteroom to the dwelling as a whole.

Although it is part of the plot, the courtyard is designed as a separate area from the house. As in other projects by Gutierrez Cortina Architects, there is a desire to keep a certain distance between some areas and others so that a change of activity implies a journey.

Openings in the roof allow in natural light in the form of controlled geometric rays.
