Palace history

The Vienna Down Kinsky palace is an outstanding example of the highest baroque. A building on Frayung Square built by request of the field marshal Virikh Philippe Lourents, the column of Down, under control of Johann L. Hildebrandta. By 1719 of work have come to the end.

In 1764 the offspring of the count Virikh, Leopold, has sold a patrimonial palace to count Ferdinand Bonaventure Harrakh. The daughter of the count, Rosa Daun, has married the Czech nobleman Joseph Kinsky. Since then the palace has received the name Down Kinsky (Palais Daun-Kinsky).

In 1798 a palace reconstructed. Ernst Koch has brought in configuration interiors in the spirit of baroque. Later, in 1856, designer Friedrich Stakh has ended updating. After all innovations the initial early baroque situation has been lost.

The main facade of Daun-Kinsky is issued in the Roman baroque style, decorated with an abundance of details. As a dominant of an internal place the front staircase of work Matiyelli made on the project of Beduzzi serves. The dress circle list, devoted the column to Down – work to Carlo Karlon. Ceiling scenery of a lobby and a hall has executed Alberto Kamesin.

In 1986 to Kinsky have sold a palace. Having replaced a number of owners, the entail property has run across to Charles Vlashek’s fund. Since 1992 art auctions are carried out to Down Kinsky. Since 2000 the part of a structure is adapted under trading and office areas. Palace rooms are rented under actions, wedding ceremonies. The roundish hall with its good acoustics is used for concerts.
