Shyonbrunn (Schlo? Schonbrunn) is in a distance from the centre of Vienna. This big baroque palace – one of the best locks of the Gabsbursky dynasty. It is surrounded with traditional park with fountains. Palace title: Schlo? Schonbrunn – occurs from German «Schoene Brunnen» – «fine sources».

Palace history

The lock conducts the history since 1614 – then Kaiser Mathias has bought a hunting lodge in an estate of Kattenburg, nearby to Vienna. It has found a colourful source in the wood. The Kaiser has given the order to design round a source a well. The title of this well has given a name to all estate.

The hunting house has been reconstructed to the summer residence. In 1683 it has been destroyed at a Turkish siege, and since 1696 construction of a new palace has begun. The project was developed by Fischer von Erlakh; fine Versailles became a prototype for the latest residence. Governor Charles VI has bought a palace and has presented it daughters – Maria Tereziya. The empress has brought a big contribution to Shyonbrunn’s development. At it the palace became the centre of cultural and political life of Austria. Shyonbrunn’s today’s construction type has got at reconstruction of 1742-43. Within centuries Shyonbrunn everything became finer, but the XX century has brought to a destruction palace. Bombings of 1945 have caused to it a loss. Since 1992 active restoration has been begun, and since 1996 Shyonbrunn have included in UNESCO list. Shyonbrunn is an excellent construction complex with an abundance of halls and galleries, rooms and offices (all in a palace 1141 rooms). 45 huge and small rooms are open for tourists. All of them are laboriously restored and can give complete idea of life of the most august persons staying here during various times.

Excursion round begins with the western wing. Guests подымаются on the Blue ladder, visit Franz Josef’s apartments and his spouses Elizabeth, then pass through official rooms, examine rooms of other representatives of a monarchical dynasty. The dressed most up and impressing the Mirror hall looks. In this hall ministers perceived the oath, for the empress six-year Mozart here played. Charlotte Lotaringskaya, and later, Maria Josephine, arranged here holiday receptions. A parquet and windows of a hall are decorated by carpets and wine-coloured curtains; big wall mirrors do effect of a boundless place. Big Gallery – the greatest and smart smart hall. It is issued in style of rococo; its snow-white walls with gilding are decorated with frescos of work of Italian Gregorio Gulyelmi (XVIII century) . The rich list decorates the gallery arch. In a hall a large quantity of mirrors and crystal lighting devices. The small gallery strikes with a set of gold stucco mouldings. This very light room, its ceiling too it is painted with frescos. From windows the marvellous view of palace park reveals. In the Ceremonial Hall entice attention of 5 big cloths made by order of Maria Tereziya. In pictures festive wedding of tsarevitch Joseph with Isabella Parmskoy is embodied. Cloths in details represent faces of historical characters, their clothes, palace interiors and even small details of a situation. In Bolshenn to a hall the Rose is Maria Tereziya’s smart portrait. Walls of a hall are decorated with a landscape list with views of Switzerland and Italy. The list was executed by painter Joseph Rosa. At Napoleon’s room – a sad story. In it the governor stopped, and after his renunciation there lived Napoleon’s offspring. It had the grandson to Franz I and has received a title of the baron. The baron Reykhshtadsky was lost the absolutely young. In a room the section in what there lived once his friend – the loved lark has remained.

The room of Roesselzimmer served as a room for games, and later – a dining room. Walls of this room are decorated with a subject list with hunting scenes. In a palace there are unusual, exotic rooms.« The million room» has been decorated by panels from a pink tree and decorated with miniatures from Persia and India.  On two parties from Small gallery «the Chinese offices» took place: Roundish and Round. In the Round office the imperial family spent time behind a card play. In a room of Gobelins the Bruxelles woven cloths of the XVIII century with landscapes of a market square and sea harbour of the port of Antwerp are collected. In this room 6 gobelin chairs with the image of zodiac symbols and 12 months of year have remained. Maria Tereziya’s bedroom is restored in particular laboriously. In it there is the original royal bed which has escaped since the XVIII century. Yellow and Reddish salons answer the titles – their decor is executed in crimson and yellow tones; walls are decorated with portraits of a monarchical dynasty. The salon of Empress Elizabeth is issued in style of rococo. It has been created in 1854 and served the empress as a reception office. On its walls it is possible to behold Elizabeth’s three smart portraits and some pastels with images of her kids. The office for Franz Josef’s work differs moderate furniture. The desk of the governor behind which important municipal issues were solved here has remained. Is unreal to list and depict all fine halls and Shyonbrunn’s rooms. Being in Austria, surely visit this palace – a history monument, an art masterpiece, the eyewitness of history of a powerful dynasty.
