Museum of history of Vienna (Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien) the museum till 2003 so was called. Its present title – the Museum of Vienna on Karlsplats (Wien Museum Karlsplatz). Here the history of Vienna, since pioneer settlements on the bank of Danube is documented, Vindobon’s Roman camp on northern border of the Roman Empire, the residence of barons Babenbergsky and 640-year domination Gabsburgov and finishing modern history.
Ground floor – the Roman and medieval periods of history of Vienna with subjects of clothes and utensils of that time. Funeral helmets, fantastic figures transfer us to distant times of a medieval statue.

The 2nd floor of a museum is occupied with painting of Baroque style and the bolshushchy model of Vienna of 1857. The exposition of «The characteristic grimacing heads», made after 1770 became Franz Xavier Messershmidta’s very unusual avant-garde project.

The 3rd floor of a museum in a blue part represents an era of a bidermayer, 1815-1848. Grandiose style of salon and Franz Grilpartser’s rooms – the playwright of Austria, strikes with the bent furniture from a reddish tree, an elm, an oak, an ash-tree, a nutlet. The petty-bourgeois comfort of the facilitated empire style of those times shows an organichnost of that time when with a view of economy it was accepted to co-operate the incompatible – the harpsichord had the built-in box for house needlework, myagenky chairs of capacity for storage of candles, bureau office.
In a reddish part of the third floor of a museum art of the XIX-XX centuries is collected. Charles Lyueger made on a sketch of Otto Wagner’s the burgomistersky chair solemnly lies.

Max Klinger representing nude Beethoven’s the scandalous statue which has been presented in 1902 at Setsession’s exhibition has nearby settled down. Obvorazhivayet a tiny statue of the dancer executed from plasticine and a wire by Egon Schiele.

There is here Charles Shtenvert’s sculpture in style the pop-atr (1965) – the wax head of the maiden in a coffin from the glass, clamped by a vice. Special attention the picture of the Austrian masters of graphics deserve Gustav Klimt’s work, Laos, the Pricker, Kokoschka.

The museum of Vienna conducts the chronicle of history of Vienna. The exposition totals more than 3500 exhibits of history, culture, art and adumbrates, as the city since the Roman legions and developed in particular during the Austrian republic.
