(Freyung) Frayung Square  before the Scottish monastery (Schottenstift) is surrounded with magnificent palaces of the XVII-XVIII centuries: Kinsky’s (Palais Kinsky) baroque palace from North side is constructed Loukas von Hildebrandtom for the field marshal of Down (1713-1716); last palace of Porchia (Porcia) in style the Renaissance at the left adjoins; the palace Harrakh (Palais Harrach) has been constructed allegedly by D. Martinelli in 1700 for the count Harrakh.

In usual style for Ringshtrasse the palace Ferstel (Palais Ferstel) (1856-1860) which has received a name in honour of designer G. Ferstel which has constructed him, and become a haven for known Cafe Central – places of meetings of the writers which repeated opening has taken place in 1986 is executed.

For the area there is a Hardegg palace (1847), the Schonborn-Batthyany palace (1692-1693) and  the Windisch-Graetz palace (1703). In the middle of the area there is the Austrian fountain of work of Ludwig Shvantaler (1846): the figures decorating a fountain, allegorically symbolise Austria and four main rivers of the empire (On, Elba, Vistula and Danube).
